Kurt Elling’s cocktail hour virtual concert tour: Video

Grammy Award-winning vocalist Kurt Elling invites you to join him for Cocktail Hour, his Virtual Concert Tour.

Kurt Elling takes to the stage of Chicago’s iconic Green Mill for a series of livestream performances in partnership with Jazz FM to celebrate the silver anniversary of Elling’s Blue Note debut.

His 25th Anniversary Concert Tour will be live-streamed every Friday night at 9pm UK time (3pm in Chicago) from 9-30th October with the final instalment on Friday 13th November. The series features five themed performances that look back on his rich career, while continuing to surprise with the inventiveness for which he’s become known over the past quarter-century.

As the performances are live from Chicago, they are billed as The Matinee Bundle, but broadcast at 9pm British time. The series costs $60 (around £47) for access to all five concerts, with additional options to upgrade for behind-the-scenes access and merchandise.

Over the course of these five concerts, Elling will be accompanied by a new version of his working band, with pianist and organist Stu Mindeman, bassist Clark Sommers and drummer Dana Hall, with guitarist John McLean joining the group for select performances, along with a host of special guests.

Kurt Elling’s Cocktail Hour – Full Programme

The evening will feature songs by past greats, from Jon Hendricks and Dexter Gordon to Joe Zawinul and beyond.

23rd October – ‘K-Pop night’ – pop favourites from Stevie to U2

Here Kurt Elling explores pop music history, performing songs by the likes of Stevie Wonder and U2, in Elling’s own style with John McLean on guitar.

30th October – ‘Here’s Romance’

Celebrate love and romance in song, as Elling dives into The Great American Songbook.

14th November – ‘The Big Blind’

The series culminates with a special, one-of-a-kind reprisal of Elling’s radio-style musical drama The Big Blind, which premiered in 2019 at the Lincoln Center with an all-star cast including Broadway legend Ben Vereen and NEA Jazz Master Dee Dee Bridgewater. The piece will be transformed into a narrated piece, allowing Elling to perform the piece alone among cinematic vignettes at The Green Mill.
