Yerevan Jazz Fest -2018 will be opened by headliner Arturo Sandoval: Videos

The Armenian Jazz Association and MEZZO Production presented all the details about the upcoming jazz festival in Armenia. A remarkable detail – the concerts will be held not only in the capital of Armenia, but also in the second city of the republic – the cultural capital of Armenia, the city of Gyumri, as well as in Shushi (Artsakh).

November 7 Yerevan Jazz Fest -2018 will be opened by headliner Arturo Sandoval. Mega-star of world jazz, winner of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, 10-time winner of the Grammy Award, Emmy Award, 6-time winner of the Billboard Award, one of the founders of the legendary Cuban group Irakere, trumpeter and pianist to perform along with State Jazz The orchestra of Armenia was written by a saxophonist and composer Armen Usnunts.

Russia will be represented by Sergey Manukyan, who will perform in Gyumri with young Armenian musicians, as well as in Shushi, where he will sing to the accompaniment of the Artsakh State Jazz Orchestra conducted by Tigran Lalayan.

Singer China Moses (USA) was expected in Yerevan this spring. But then the concert did not take place. And now, finally, Yerevan jazz lovers will have the opportunity to hear the voice of their daughter DiDi Bridgewater live! She will also sing along with the State Jazz Orchestra of Armenia.

A big and pleasant surprise awaits the audience on the closing day of the festival. The State Chamber Orchestra of Jazz Music named after Oleg Lundstrem will come to visit the hero of the day, whose artistic director and main conductor is currently Boris Frumkin, People’s Artist of Russia. Together with the State Jazz Orchestra of Armenia they will play a big double concert.

Who is an artist? Armenian jazz! The fact is that the State Jazz Orchestra of Armenia was created in 1938 by order of the Government of Armenia and since then pleases jazz lovers not only in Armenia. Today’s State Jazz of Armenia is the direct successor of the same collective that 80 years ago created and which was led by composer and cellist Artemy Ayvazyan for many years. And by the way, this festival is dedicated to him.

There is no doubt that this is why, in the festival program so much space is given to big bands. Well, the visit of the oldest orchestra, founded in 1934 by Oleg Lundstrem is a wonderful gift for all who love jazz!
