27.09. – Happy Birthday !!! John Damberg is a master vibist, marimbist, percussionist, composer, and educator who has enjoyed a successful career in music spanning 35 years.
John currently resides in Anchorage, AK where he is the leader of the John Damberg Latin Jazz Quintet, a member of the Jo Ma La Jazz Ensemble, the Instructor of Percussion at the University of Alaska Anchorage, the President and founder of the Alaska Jazz Workshop, a 501 (c) (3) community service organization, which promotes appreciation for jazz through performance and educational classes. John is an activer performer on the Alaska and Pacific Northwest music scenes. He is an ardent promoter of jazz and percussion education. John has three CDs to his credit as a leader. They are Human Hands (1993), Angies’ Samba (1998) and Azure (2005). He has composed music for industrial and travel videos including: Alaska Video Postcards releases “Crusing the Inside Passage” and “Monty the Moose”. As a percussionist John has performed with internationally acclaimed jazz artists including: Milt Jackson, Cedar Walton, Wynton Marsalis, Ray Charles, Rebeca Mauleon, Michael Davis, Denis Diblasio, Carl Fontana, Allison Miller, Steve Erquiaga, Jay Thomas, Peggy Stern, and Don Lanphere and with renowned entertainers including: Harry Connick Jr. , Quincy Jones, the Temptations, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Sammy Daivis Jr. Steve Allen, Joel Gray, and Liberace. As a classical percussionist John has also performed with the Detroit, the Seattle, and the Anchorage Symphony Orchestras. John holds BM, MM degrees in percussion performance and a BMEd degree in Music Education.
