21.04. – Happy Birthday !!! Cellist, composer and arranger, Giuseppe Tortora started studying music very early, at first as a pianist, then as trombonist under his father’s guidance. Then he began studying Cello and got his fist degree at the Conservatorio “S. Ceclilia” in Rome with F. Strano. Later he got also a degree in Chamber Music and Jazz Music.
In 1991 he won an international contest for the “Orchestre des Jeunes de la Mediterranee” and went to France where he specialized with R. Filippini. Back to Italy in 1995, he further specialized with A. Noferini. Besides classical music, he studied also jazz composition and arrangement with various teachers such as P. Iodice, P. Pecoriello, D Halligan, M. Applebaum and others.
In 2000 he entered Siena Jazz School studying with P. Dalla Porta, E. Fioravanti and M. Raja. He has performed with “Teatro dell’Opera” of Rome, “I Virtuosi di S. Cecilia,” The Philharmonic Orchestra of Turin and many others.
Since 1986 he has been cello principal in many TV programs both on RAI and MEDIASET networks and from 1995 to 1999 he has been cello principal with the “Orchestra della Diocesi di Roma”, recording many TV films as a soloist.
He has often collaborated and recorded with most famous Italian pop singers such as C. Baglioni, R. Zero, G. Paoli, Mina and A. Celentano, Avion Travel, R. Cocciante (Notre Dame de Paris), M. Rei and also with some of the most important Italian jazz players among whom Stefano di Battista, Javier Girotto, F.Bosso, High Five,Rita Marcotulli, R. Gatto, D. Rea,G.Garzone and many others.
He has made tours in Canada, the USA, England, France, Turkey, Croatia, Israel and Egypt. He currently teaches cello at the S. Louis Music College in Rome.
