For his first jam of the year at The Starfish pub, Capucine had invited an excellent saxophonist named Tom Nones.
The elegance of a game provided, round and refined notes, with a golden and felted sound, sometimes strengthened by a hint of roughness, was perfectly in line with the game of our four Capuchins who found there their marks. We quoted Art Pepper, and the atmosphere was a rather intimate jazz, and willingly vintage, nestled in the protective stones of the place.
It was noted with relief that the beating of Thomas Gaucher had certainly not reached his fingers, still inspired on the neck of his Ibanez. We wish him a speedy recovery. Same thing for Felix Robin, not sick him, and even very fit, engaged in these beautiful flights of which he has the secret, which fuse and are always on the edge of balance, as if to play, like a rocker his chorus, on a cliff.
Very nice rhythmic sitting with a Louis Laville, more “Vendeen” than ever, in his perpetual search for the next sound, from beyond the neck, he often looks upwards, as if he needed a second. And then Thomas Galvan, who made wonder of his little drum kit, more introspective than ever, arched, minimalist, cautious, detector of the ultimate sound of his soul. A few pieces to delight us, always generously developed, then it’s jam and it will go on the hats, even if there are not too many people in the audience tonight.
We find the regulars, passionate, inexhaustible on their latest discoveries and plays: Louis Gachet and Dobraz (trumpets), they offered us an irresistible battle, Mathieu Calzan young master keyboard that we never tired of listening, Louis Lubat came as a friend to vibrate the drums like a magician craftsman, but also Paolo Chatet, specialist in “Float Tube” and very fine trumpet player, and then finally new ones whose names I do not know, except Martin Arnx, a very young guitarist promising, that it will also follow closely. First jam very successful.
A beautiful introduction to a year 2018 which is also likely to be jazz!
