I love crawling around through the ducts at YouTube. The video site is a virtual Aladdin’s lamp of audio pleasures if you know how to search for fantasy music.
For example, I recently stumbled on a batch of remixes of Motown songs by real and virtual DJs.
Over the past 10 years or so, DJs with pseudonyms such as Soul Purrfection, Reflex Revision, Dimitri From Paris and DJ Reverend P have been reworking classic singles to draw out specific sections of the songs or rearranging segments to create an extended listen with a new emphasis. In other words, taking what you know and emphasizing different colors in the music. Many of them have done this at dance clubs and have uploaded the results.
Nothing beats the originals, but here are six reimagined examples:
Stevie Wonder’s For Once in My Life remixed by DJ Reverend P…
The Supremes’ Love Child remixed by DJ Reverend P…
The Spinners’ It’s a Shame remixed by Disco Purrfection…
Marvin Gaye’s Mercy, Mercy Me reworked by Reflex Revision…
A deep house remix of The Marvelettes’ Don’t Mess With Bill by Frans Snarf…
The Jackson Five’s I Want You Back remixed by Dimitri From Paris…
