Though interacting in a vast variety of settings he never ceases to be profoundly affirmative of his language. As soloist featured on more than 50 CD releases. Mark builds an bridge between jazz with contemporary music. Some ensembles cross borders with other music cultures of the world. His appetite for musical adventures takes him all over the globe. Here ears are wide open.
Some facts:
• Grew up in Thailand and Uganda as son of jazz researcher Dr. Rainer Lotz. Started playing flute at age of seventeen and ended up studying both jazz and classical music at the School of Arts Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Private tuition in the US. Price winner of the Karlovy Vary and Middlesea Jazz competions. 2008-2010 student of Indian Bansuri Flute at Codarts.
• Through the years Mark has performed and recorded with a huge cast of artists. Literally from A(rmenia) too Z(ambia). A.o. • Lotz has composed in commision for Theater play, Experimental String quartet, Three Piano trio, Big band and other diverse ensembles and worked together with actors, artists, dansers and Vj. His work as composer is supported by the ‘Fonds voor de Sheppende Toonkunst’.
• Mark Lotz was part of the “Music: World Series” concert organisation and is initiator of the free improvised music concert series “u-ex(perimental)” (2006-2010). Mark makes part of the governing board of Improvising Musicians Holland (BIM) teaches flute at the Utrecht Conservatory, The Netherlands.
• His music was rated no’s.1 – 10 at lots of music charts, top ten’s, tipsheets, published on Compilation CD’s and chosen as Best of, editor pick and special feature in diverse international publications.
• As leader Mark has released 17 Cd’s for German, Dutch, Turkish, French and US record labels. Recorded more than 30 CD’s as sideman for diverse Jazz and World Music ensembles.
