The storied Newport Jazz Festival, now in its 69th year, has announced much of the talent lineup for the festival that will be held Aug. 4-6, 2023 at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, R.I.
The list of performers includes a mix of nearly every genre of jazz or “jazz-adjacent.” High-profile headliners include Herbie Hancock, Diana Krall, Jon Batiste, Kamasi Washington, Thundercat, DJ Pee. Wee (Anderson.Paak) and Samara Joy. Artistic director Christian McBride will appear with the Moodswing Reunion band featuring Joshua Redman, Brad Mehldau and Brian Blade, as well as lead his Jam Jawn that features surprise special guests. The list of performers features a mix of noted jazz veterans such as Charles Lloyd, Charles McPherson, Kurt Elling and Bill Charlap and emerging artists like Lakecia Benjamin, Immanuel Wilkins, Butcher Brown and Endea Owens.
